Why do our students need to take the PSAT?
Although College Administrative committees don’t review PSAT results, a variety of organizations, especially the National Merit Organization, consider PSAT scores as part of their scholarship requirements.
Besides, as students prepare for the PSAT, they also prepare for the SAT. The critical reading and thinking skills important for success on the PSAT are also important for academic success in high school and college.
The PSAT is going through significant changes for the fall of 2015 to reflect changes in the SAT for spring 2016. The major difference is in how the concepts are tested and the steps students will have to take to solve problems correctly.
There will be three new PSAT tests: the PSAT 8/9, the PSAT 10, and the PSAT/NMSQT (PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). (SpringLight’s class will prepare students for the PSAT/NMSQT as that is the one used for scholarships.) These tests will be taken by students in eighth or ninth grade, tenth grade, and tenth or eleventh grade, respectively. Reference Link:https://goo.gl/Cikda4

In SpringLight’s PSAT class, we will prepare for the new, redesigned PSAT by reviewing a variety of reading comprehension, grammar, and math questions in class. Our primary focus will be grammar and reading comprehension. Students will also learn a variety of useful strategies for the new PSAT test.
SpringLight will offer students who take the PSAT class several sets of practice tests to prepare for the new PSAT in this October.

*The PSAT is a standardized test written and administered by the College Board, and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. It is designed to assess students’ skills in critical reading, mathematics, and writing.
The PSAT is a timed exam. You will be allowed a limited amount of time for each section. Set aside a total of 2 hours and 45 minutes for this exam. The amount of time that you will have for each section is given on the first page of each section. If you are taking a proctored exam, your proctor will also announce the time that you are allowed for each section.
Detailed directions are provided at the beginning of each section. Read these directions carefully when taking practice exams. You should try to be totally familiar with the directions for each section by the time.
