2015 Fall Science Bowl for Middle School Students

This Febuary Lynbrook’s Science Bowl Team A competed at the 2015 SLAC Regional Competition and beat out The Harker School to earn 1st place and a trip to Washington DC for the 2015 National Science Bowl Competition!

Science Bowl is one of the most prestigious national science competitions, and is hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy. It provides an intellectually stimulating atmosphere to interact productively with other students and communicate ideas effectively. Science Bowl is an activity that uniquely combines teamwork and leadership skills with deep and comprehensive knowledge of various science subjects, and can help you stand out from the competition.
Program Description: This course aims to prepare students for the Science Bowl competition. It contains both lecture and practice round components. Students will be taught Life Science, Physical Science, Earth Science, Energy, Mathematics, and General Science. The coach will work heavily on reinforcing science knowledge in the listed categories as well as improving buzzing strategies and time management necessary for science bowl.

Students who qualify for competing teams are accepted to top schools.

 When: 8/29 to 11/21, 6:30 to 8:30pm, Saturday.

Who: For 6-8th grade (middle school class)

Each class will include a lecture which discusses the most important topics within Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, Energy and Math, as well as diagnostic tests written by the instructor to simulate team selection and practice buzzer rounds.

Instructor:

Jeffrey Chang is a senior at Lynbrook High School. Some of his achievements include:

Why Science Bowl?
Science Bowl helps students further their interests in science, as well as provide an intellectually stimulating atmosphere to interact productively with other students and communicate ideas effectively. Additionally, Science Bowl encourages students to excel in science and mathematics and pursue careers in those fields.

James Ma is a recently graduated senior of Lynbrook High School who will be attending Yale University this fall, majoring an undeclared science. Some of his achievements include:
