Most Asian families want, and expect their children to have a strong education and to get into the best colleges there is. Unfortunately, there are students from competitive high schools that commit suicide almost every year. A lot of students also go through depression, or identify as having felt depression in some form. A surprising amount of high-achieving students take medication in order to keep going.

It’s not wrong to hope and want for our students to get a good education – so what is going wrong?

Mental health is a very important factor in life. Our mental condition affects our emotions and even how we feel physically. Asian-American students often struggle with depression caused by a variety of reasons, and being able to identify, prevent, and treat this will be helpful for all areas of life.

The Teens Speak Out team at Bay Echo have discovered many of the reasons behind this problem, and some of them have experienced it as well. They can help you understand the causes behind this, how culture clash affects the role of parents and children in depression, and more. You will also learn how to create and foster a healthy environment for yourself, as well as promote positive thinking.

Our speakers are seniors from Palo Alto, Leland, and Lynbrook High Schools. The Teens Speak Out team that researched and prepared for the presentation is made of more than ten students representing many Bay Area high schools.
