3 hour essay workshops will be conducted in small group (2-6 student) settings from late-summer through early fall. They will be categorized as Common Application versus UC Personal Statement workshops. The objective of the workshop is to produce the beginning of the first draft (not the final one). The session will begin with an overview of the Common Application questions and what Admissions is looking for in each, plus the hidden supplemental questions. Also, how the essay fits into the overall Admissions process and common pitfalls. We’ll do warm-up writing exercises and have personal reflection time and group feedback. Then, 45 minutes of writing. There is a one-on-one follow-up meeting after each workshop to review the first draft and provide further editing recommendations. Up to one hour for non-clients; unlimited time for clients. Workshops are open to everyone, including students who are currently not clients. Some parts of the Common Application content may be used for the UC Personal Statement but after being a freshman reader for UC Berkeley this past winter, the style of writing and content is quite different. I will generally address this in the first workshop.

A reservation with payment and a signed contract must be made one week in advance of the workshop date. Priority for dates go to clients.
