Student Activities & demonstrations by vendors in exhibit booth area

Ames Education Office is looking for approx. 120 middle and high school
students to attend the event. Students will receive breakfast in the morning
and a NASA backpack at the close of the event. In addition to the
presentations, IT Summit Vendors (Raytheon, Intel, Apple, Microsoft, Cisco,
VM Ware, and others) have prepared student demonstrations and activities
that will occur 10:30 11:30 AM. If needed and as available, buses will
provide transportation to and from the event from the South and East Bay.

Leland Melvin is an engineer and an astronaut. He served on board the Space
Shuttle Atlantis as a mission specialist on STS-122, and as mission
specialist 1 on STS-129. Melvin was named the NASA Associate Administrator
for Education in October 2010.

Vernice Armour is a former Captain in the United States Marine Corps who was
the first African-American female naval aviator in the Marine Corps and
America’s first African American female combat pilot in the United States
military. She flew the AH-1W SuperCobra attack helicopter in the 2003 and
eventually served two tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom .

BLASTOFF! On August 17, 2011 from 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM at the Marriot Marquis
in San Francisco.
