Dining in the Past

Grade: 7th

During Thanksgiving, everyone should be thankful for having friends, family, or education. Thanksgiving is a big holiday for my family and the best one was during the year 2012, and we also talked to each other about what we were thankful for and this made me realize that many people had gone through of terrible experiences that I hadn’t gone though. This made me think that I am lucky because there are many people that have gone though many though many hard things.

On Thanksgiving Day, I got so excited about the Thanksgiving feast that I pestered my mom when she hadn’t woken up. I was impatient to eat the food that my mom was preparing to make. My dad forced me to do homework and I reluctantly did it. When I started doing my homework so that I would go shopping the next day, I couldn’t focus doing my work because I really wanted to help my mom prepare the food.  It took me almost forever to finish because there was lots of homework to do. When I finally finished, I peeked at what my mom’s next mouthwatering plate of homemade food. There were a huge amount of pans of pans and raw vegetables and meat on the table that was waiting to be cooked for the big meal. Some of the meals that my mom planned were spinach frittata with scallops, turkey, pumpkin pie . I wanted to look at what my mom was cooking, but my dad told me to not to because it would waste time. Later, I heard my mom say that it was time to eat .When I heard that, I was so excited that I ran to the kitchen and I waited impatiently  by pestering my mom by asking when we were going to eat.

Later on we were stuffing ourselves like pigs and we were talking to each other at the same time. The pumpkin pie tasted very sweet and had a faint taste of many types of nuts. The spinach frittata tasted very delicious and the scallop tasted a little salty, though it tasted good as well. The turkey was really good with gravy and it was juicy. The food was so good that I nearly had a stomachache after eating the meal.  The next day, we went to shop at the mall almost the whole day and bought expensive electronics, wonderful clothes, and game console that is very entertaining. We also bought many things online such as books and shoes. It was like an awesome, early Christmas by getting the things we wanted, but even earlier. While we were at the mall, my family and I had fun while shopping and it was fun because we got to see many different types of dazzling clothes, fancy shoes, and expensive computers.

After the shopping madness, we discussed about what we were thankful for. I told my family that I was thankful for my parents, having lots of education, having a house, having clothing, having water to drink, and being able to survive when I wasn’t an fully grown baby because I wasn’t going to be expected around June or August. Instead, I was born February. My parents told me that I weighed only a pound when I was a newborn and my reaction was that I thought they were lying like crazy, but they actually weren’t. My grandmother told me that she was thankful for much more things because when she was my age, she was born during World War II and there were lots of tough times because there was chaos everywhere, every day, day and night. She told me that one day, her house was bombed by an aircraft that carried bombs. She told me that they were very rich, but after that horrifying event, they were very poor, like everyone else during those extremely terrible times. She also told me that the soldiers were scary, and that they treated the citizens brutally, though they didn’t do any harm to them. She said that she was thankful for surviving the World War II without having any harm, being thankful for the same things as I said, and many other things like having safety during the depressing times during the World War. My mom was thankful for surviving when she was pregnant and having diabetes at the same time because it was very hard to survive. My dad was thankful for having to take care of me and being passionate for giving me lots of education.

Every Thanksgiving we celebrate like it is a big festival and we have a big feast and it is very good and it is fun. After the big fest, we talk to each other and it really makes me realize that how everyone is thankful for any particular action or activity. The next day, we go shopping because it is Black Friday and there are lots of big discounts at many different stores and we could save lots of money.

Share the joy
