Abstract: The largest university in the US is a for-profit university. University costs are high and rising, but there are online classes from the best universities available for free to anyone with internet access. Alleged discrimination against Asians by elite universities, new UC admission policy, financial woes of state universities. How might universities change?

About Dr. Chenming Hu (胡正明博士):
Dr. Chenming Hu is Distinguished Chair Professor in Microelectronics of UC Berkeley. He is an Honorary Professor of National Chiao-Tung University, Taiwan. He serves on the board of SanDisk Corp. and the nonprofit Friends of Children with Special Needs. From 2001 to 2004 he was the Chief Technology Officer of TSMC.
IEEE called him "Microelectronics Visionary– achievements critical to producing smaller yet more reliable and higher-performance electronics". US Semiconductor Industry Association awarded him for "advancement of the electronics industry and of our national economy". He has received over 100 US patents.
Dr. Hu is honored with membership in three national academies — US National Academy of Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Academia Sinica. He has received Asian American Engineer of the Year Award and UC Berkeley’s highest honor for teaching–the Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award.
He earned B.S. degree from National Taiwan University and Ph.D. degree from UC Berkeley in electrical engineering.
