A Beautiful Day!

My daughter has just gotten her ears pierced yesterday. She was very excited instead of nervous. Right after she got them pierced at the store, she kept looking in the mirror over and over. You could tell she was very happy.

When we drove home, she was kind of quiet. Her face seemed different to me, it was like she was grown up. I asked her, “What are you thinking?”

“Nothing Mom,” my daughter replied to me.

She turned her face towards the window. I was silent too.

My daughter is not even nine years old yet, but she already knows that she can get what she wants. As a parent, I can understand her and try to help her to make her happy.  Even though it is a small thing to me, I know it is a big deal for her. It makes me feel good to fulfill her little wish.

Children always seem to find joy in the simplest things.  When I was my daughter’s age, I used to have small wishes too. My dad used to make toys for me instead of buying them.  One of my favorite toys was a little gun made of a cornstalk and some string. I played with it endlessly, pretending I was a soldier. Another thing I remember was a little vest that I wanted so badly. It was very soft, fuzzy and had little cute animals stitched on it. I saw lot of other girls wearing it and I wanted it too. But for some reason my mom never made one for me.

Even now, I still think about that little childhood wish. It reminds me that my childhood was not perfect.  At that time, I promised myself that when I had children, I would do my best to make their dreams come true because I know how important it is for them.

As we got home, my daughter could not wait to get out of the car, open the door, and call her friends to share her exciting news.

The sun was shining; the sky was so blue, the breeze felt good. My daughter’s happiness made me happy too. I know she will remember what I did for her, and how beautiful that day was!
