她愿意帮助低年级的学生plan college application,也愿意当家教!

For college consultation:
"The college admissions process is becoming increasingly competitive; this year, Harvard accepted only 6.9% of applicants, Yale accepted 7.5%, Princeton accepted 8.2%, and Stanford accepted 7.1%, compared to their 9% acceptance rates only 4 years ago. At the same time, college counseling is become more and more expensive, with counselors often charging thousands of dollars in exchange of advice regarding college applications. Caroline Tan, an incoming freshman at Yale University, is opening up college counseling services for motivated students looking to improve their admission chances at a much more affordable price. Having gone through the challenge of high school and the college application process herself, she understands the qualities sought after by colleges and strategy students need to employ in order to improve their chances.
For only $30/hour, she will:

  • Create a comprehensive strategy plan for high school academic, extracurricular, and competitive success, including advice regarding which classes to take, extracurricular activities to explore, and competitions to participate in.
  • Brainstorm and edit college essays – help determine essay topics and working with students to develop essay ideas and proofread the final products; includes creating a strong college and work resume
  • Develop acceptance strategies – work with students to determine which strengths to emphasize and which accomplishments to prioritize
  • Interview preparation – provide interview techniques and multiple practice interviews to help students ace the college interview process (Caroline is the Bay Area champion in job interview and California State 3rd place winner)
  • Letters of recommendation – work with students to answer high school and teacher questionnaires to maximize positive results with letters of recommendation (required for all private universities)
  • SAT preparation – develop test-taking strategies to ace both the SAT 1 as well as Subject tests, including vocabulary building and essay practice
  • And more! Caroline can provide assistance in a variety of college and high school-related activities, including those not mentioned in the list above.

  2. Students can begin college counseling as early as freshman year (or earlier). It’s important to plan your high school career to build a strong profile for college admissions offices.

  3. Also, Caroline is currently conducting market research for a San Jose based law firm in patent research.

She is also a Research Assistant for a professor at Stanford University.

    • So, Caroline, can you tell us how do you find those opportunities?

Also, by reading your reaume, I saw you have a lot of activities, how do you balance your afterschool activites with your acadamic school work? I know it’s not easy to handle them well, especially on Lynbrook.

  4. No, I don’t think our school counselors helped that much. They knew a good amount of information for students only interested in applying to the UCs, but didn’t have enough knowledge of the admissions process for students applying to private schools (Ivy Leagues, Stanford, MIT, CalTech, etc). I thought private counseling was much more useful in terms of the admissions process

  5. Sometimes, I hear about certain internships/opportunities from my friends and ask for the appropriate contact information of the person in charge, who I’d then email along with a copy of my resume. I usually find these opportunities by my own initiative, emailing people involved in the hiring process and etc.

In terms of balancing, I try to finish all of my immediately homework first (as in, the assignments due the next day). I stagger big projects and extracurricular activities over a variety of days, keeping a schedule of daily activities in my planner.

  6. One of the parents would like to set up  a free consultation appointment  with Caroline Tan, hope senior kid can motivate her daughter — a freshment,  I think that’s a good start.

  7. Caroline gives good advice to students regarding college admission, from motivation to application process. She is a good role model, and we appreciate her hard work in helping students.

  8. My high schooler used Caroline, and we are extremely pleased with her service. She spent time to understand my kid’s strength and provided valuable advice on how to show the strength for the college application. She is well prepared and organized, and provided a lot of materials to walk through with my kid on the process. Since her age is so close to my kid’s, she has very positive influence on my kid. I highly recommend her. A Happy Mother.
