This workshop will cover multiple ways to improve academic writing.

All students should bring a writing sample to the workshop–preferably an analytical or argumentative essay.

We will address some common concerns:

–“I memorize lots of new vocabulary, but I have trouble integrating it into my writing.”
–“My teacher says I need to add more detail, but I don’t know how.”
–“My teacher says I need to improve my organization and focus.  How do I even start?”
–“My writing is awkward, wordy, or informal. How can I fix that?”
–“I always leave it to the last minute…”

Introduction of the speaker:

Mrs. Webster has been offering editing services of technical and academic papers for many years.  Additionally, as a writing tutor, she helps students improve school assignments and college application essays.
She has worked at her college’s Writing Center as a writing tutor. She helped college students with everything from single paragraphs to 20-page term papers.  In satisfaction surveys, students gave Mrs. Webster universally high ratings.
She was an editor at her college’s biology publication (Eukarion) and at her high school’s literature magazines (The Wit and The Half Wit).
Additionally, Mrs. Webster received a $20,000 writing scholarship to her undergraduate college, a perfect score (800) on both the SAT and the GRE writing sections, and a solid 5 on both the AP Language and the AP Literature exams.
