Traditionally, my family and I usually spend Thanksgiving break staying at home, relaxing, and spending time with friends and family at feasts, potlucks, and parties, just as most people do. However, this year’s Thanksgiving was a little different and unique. Besides all the gourmet potlucks and parties that we went to, I participated in what I recognized as one of the most unique and memorable events in my entire life. I was accepted to compete in this year’s 2014 Miss Teen San Jose pageant competition, and I was very grateful having this opportunity to compete with other girls on the stage as we all shared our thoughts towards our inside beauty which was loving, caring and giving thanks to all the things.
After having done wonderfully on the initial interview, and getting an outstanding score, I was one of the 150 participants to have been accepted into the final production which happened during the weekend right before Thanksgiving holiday. During the two hours Casual Wear routine competition and two hours Formal Wear routine competition, we had to answer some interesting questions, for example, “Where would you want to be 10 years later, and why?”, “If you could be guaranteed one thing in life, besides money, what would you ask for, and why?”, “What is the legacy that you would want to leave behind you, and why?”. Some of the best answers were missionary, giving, love, caring and helping others. I suddenly realized that that was exactly the true meaning of Thanksgiving, adoration, sacrifice, praise, and an offering, and that was exactly what Miss Teen San Jose was looking for – our insight beauty.
I couldn’t be more grateful to have the phenomenal life experience and I couldn’t have done it without my parents, the loving support from friends and family and of course, to the kind sponsors. Thank you with all my heart!
