The goal of SpringLight’s AP Chemistry Test Prep class is to supplement daily school work as students prepare for the AP Chemistry test.

 Spring Light’s test-prep class provides weekly sets of practice AP-style multiple choice and free response problems. Students have in-class opportunities to address questions regarding the practice problems.

 AP Chemistry Exam Structure


Assessment Overview

The annual AP Chemistry examinationis divided into two major sections (multi ple-choice questions and free response essays). The test has 60 multiple choice questions and 7 free response questions.

Section I, the multiple-choice portion, does not allow the use of a calculator, nor does it provide any additional reference material, other than a periodic table. 90 minutes are allotted for the completion of Section I. Section I covers the breadth of the curriculum.

Section II, the free response section, is divided into two sections:

Part A, 55 minutes, allows the use of calculators. Three problems. Concerns equilibrium related to solubility, acid and base, pressure/concentration.

Part B, 40 minutes, without the use of a calculator. Three problems.  The first question of Part B is a chemical equation question in which 3 scenarios are presented and the student is required to work all 3 scenarios, authoring a balanced net ionic chemical equation for each scenario and answer questions about the equations and scenarios.

Is your student ready for the essay portion of the AP Biology test?
The goal of SpringLight’s AP Biology Test Prep class is to supplement daily school work as students prepare for the AP Biology test.
Many students feel that they need more practice for the Free Response section of the test (which is 50% of the overall score!). Therefore, SpringLight’s test-prep class assigns weekly Free Response questions and provides each student with detailed, individual feedback.

Many schools neglect to consult the College Board website, teaching students either too little or too much information for the AP test.  Therefore, Spring Light’s test-prep class reviews only the essential material, but reviews it thoroughly.
Finally, Spring Light’s test-prep class provides weekly sets of practice AP-style multiple choice problems. Students have in-class opportunities to address questions regarding the practice problems.
In Spring Light’s test prep class, students will:
-complete several practice essays each week
-receive detailed, individual feedback on each essay
-thoroughly review textbook information essential for the AP test
-practice AP-style multiple choice questions organized by subject
 -complete several practice essays each week

Assessment Overview

Exam questions are based on learning objectives, which combine science practices with specific content. Students learn to
•     Solve problems mathematically — including symbolically
•     Design and describe experiments and analyze data and sources of error
•     Explain, reason, or justify answers with emphasis on deeper, conceptual understanding
• Interpret and develop conceptual models

Section I: Multiple Choice          69 Questions, 90 Minutes, 50% of Exam Score

(ZT) 哥伦比亚大学面试实录:丢了热情,SAT满分又怎样 ?


两 名背景相似、成绩优异、活动经历也同样丰富的学生申请哥伦比亚大学,一位SAT成绩为2400分,另一位SAT为2340分,面试之后,哥伦比亚大学最终 录取的是2340分的同学。美国名校的录取率越来越低,如果SAT分数也不能成为决定录取与否的标准,那什么才是最重要的?Jeremy通过两份面试记录 告诉你,名校到底更倾向给哪种学生抛去橄榄枝。Jeremy毕业于哥伦比亚大学应用物理专业,曾担任该校招生面试官。

我 毕业于哥伦比亚大学,因此我更关注于哥伦比亚大学的申请情况。首先,我想告诉大家一些数据。 我们来看一下中国学生的申请情况。2010年共有837名中国学生申请哥伦比亚大学,其中669名来自中国本土(其他168名在其他国家就读高中)。整体 上,申请人数比上一年增长了50%。 也就是说,现在越来越多的中国学生申请哥伦比亚大学。 这些学生的情况如何呢?在最终就读于哥伦比亚大学的14名中国学生中,11名来自中国本土,3名来自于其他国家但持有中国护照。哥伦比亚大学的就学率为 60%,也就是说在被录取到哥伦比亚大学的学生中,60%的学生最终会选择就读哥伦比亚大学。因此,我们可以推论得出共有23名持中国护照的学生被录取, 其中18名来自中国本土。 在669名就读于中国本土高中的申请学生中(包括国际高中和普通高中国际部),仅有18名学生被录取,录取率仅为2.7%。这实在不是件容易的事情! 现在我想谈谈哥伦比亚大学近年来快速增长的学生人数及其含义。2010年,哥伦比亚大学第一次采用联招申请系统(Common Application)。这或许是哥伦比亚大学申请人数上涨33.4%的最主要因素(申请人数从26,179增长到34,929)。申请人数仅仅比哈佛 大学少70人! 分析来看, 申请哥伦比亚学院的人数从21,748增长到29,393(增长了35.1%,自2002年增长了108%)。工程学院,也就是通常所说的哥伦比亚大学 FU基金工程基础与应用科学学院,申请人数从4,431增长到5,536(增长了24.9%,自2002年增长了170%)。 就哥伦比亚学院而言,2005年的录取率为10.7%,2010年为8.3%,2011年仅为6.39%!而工程学院2005年的录取率为 26.2%,2010年降到13.4%,2011年仅为9.90%!这和哥伦比亚学院的6.39%的录取率相比,似乎高了不少,但是和麻省理工学院相比却 差不了多少,麻省理工学院2011年的录取率仅为9.58%。就哥伦比亚大学整体而言,2011年的录取率仅为6.93%。 以下我们来看一下常春藤(八加二)盟校2015届学生的录取率(注意:“常春藤八加二”指八所常春藤学校附加斯坦福大学和麻省理工学院):
