James Ma is a recent graduate of Lynbrook High School who has just finished his first semester at Yale University. Some of his achievements include:

  • One of 100 Yale “likely letter” recipients for strength in STEM fields
  • Research intern at various labs (Stanford, ASU)
  • Founder of Science Fair Mentorship program for middle school students
  • President (12), Treasurer (11) of Science Club
  • Captain of Varsity Science Bowl team
  • Physics Bowl Team – First Place
  • Physics Olympiad Semifinalist
  • Numerous science fair awards

What he will be covering:

  1. His experiences in high school: balancing school with extracurricular activities; going outside his comfort zone
  2. How he got involved in/achieved success in his activities
  3. His college application process: what he did and what was valuable
  4. The importance of having support from family
  5. His impressions of the value of attending a top-tier private school
  6. His thoughts on Yale after his first semester

What students/parents will get out of this workshop:

  1. Tips on how to build yourself up and differentiate yourself
  2. Strategies for creating your own opportunities for success
  3. Advice on how to take advantage of your resources in high school
  4. Finding research opportunities
  5. Insight into what top colleges look for in a student

James Ma will also cover two important things:

  • How to successfully write an application for Yale
