Quote
It is perfectly acceptable to remain on the Wait List at more than one college. If space becomes available you have every right to consider matriculation. There is nothing immoral or unethical about considering a new option. If you then decide to attend our school, make certain to notify both colleges that your plans have changed. This will allow the other college to admit another student to replace the spot that you have vacated. It is unethical to keep deposits at more than one college. By informing both colleges, you maintain the ethical posture of having made only one commitment to a college at one time.

Student Rights and Responsibilities in the College Admission Process, established by the National Association for College Admission Counseling, states that “Colleges can’t require deposits or written commitments as conditions of you remaining on their Wait List.”
